OVERVIEW

Sinéad Murphy is a writer and television director with over twenty years of experience working in the Film and TV industry both at home and internationally creating content for RTÉ, SKY, Screen Ireland, NI Screen and Channel 4. She has worked with some of the biggest productions companies in Ireland including, Tyrone Productions, Mind The Gap, Animo, Scratch Films, Kite Entertainment and New Decade. She started her career as a camera trainee and then moved into the Assistant Director department working in the film Industry in Ireland, England and New Zealand before beginning to direct in 2008.

TV Director

Sinéad directed PJ Gallagher’s powerful documentary about mental health, called ‘Changing my Mind.’ In 2023 Sinéad Produced and directed the Richie Sadlier documentary series for called ‘Lets Talk About Sex,’ which examines the current sex education curriculum in Ireland. Both were with Tyrone Productions.

In the television sector, Sinéad has been Series Director with writing credits on multiple series in Ireland and the UK ranging from factual to science to comedy. Most notably ‘Anonymous,’ series 3 and 4 (2008-2009), ‘The Model Agent,’ (2010), Channel 4’s ‘Trojan Donkey,’ (2013).

Sinéad was also series director on the science series ‘10 Things to Know About,’ from 2018 - 2020. In 2020 during the pandemic, she produced and directed ‘My Uni Life,’ the year-long fly-on-the-wall documentary series about disadvantaged students.

In 2022 Sinead produced directed and filmed the documentary ‘Border Memories,’ which was part-funded by Northern Ireland Screen and Create Louth. Border Memories is an art house short doc that gives us an insight into rural South Armagh life before the troubles.

Film

In recent years Sinéad has gone back to her love of film. She spent the summer of 2024 filming the Independent feature film SLUDGE in the town of Dundalk. Sinéad is passionate about showcasing the wealth of talent in her local area.

In 2019 Sinéad produced, directed and co-wrote ‘Repossession,’ the short horror film set in the rural landscape of South Armagh. The award winning horror short had a successful run in Irish and International film festivals.

In 2020 Screen Ireland funded ‘Expulsion,’ a period horror, set in an orphanage. ‘Expulsion,’ was written and directed by Sinéad and completed in June 2020, it was filmed in Bellurgan Co. Louth and it won the audience choice award at the Louth International Film festival in 2021 and was selected for numerous film festivals including, Galway Film Fleadh, Cork Film Festival, Dublin International Film Festival, The Big Apple Film Festival NYC and LA Shorts amongst others.

 

Sinéad is currently working on several documentary projects, Irish based and international. She has also produced, directed and filmed a short documentary - ‘Mr Wilmer,’ about the legacy of an immigrant cabaret performer from Hells Kitchen NYC, his love for life, cabaret performance and the catholic church which will complete filming in 2025.

Sinéad’s passion is for writing , she is developing several feature film scripts; comedy horror ‘The Gash,’ and a dark drama ‘Priest.’ Sinéad will be writer in residence in An Taín arts centre Dundalk from Jan - March 2025.
